Nightly swaps: what does slippage measure?
Nightly is a multichain crypto wallet with built-in token swaps. Slippage measures the price change between submitting a swap order and its execution, so the final exchange rate can differ from the earlier quote.
How does the rate affect the tokens received?
For a fixed input amount, a less favorable execution rate produces fewer output tokens than the quoted rate implied. A more favorable rate produces more. This relationship concerns the exchange rate for the same token pair and input amount, with separately stated fees accounted for separately.
Can comparing quotes remove slippage?
Nightly compares quotes from multiple decentralized exchanges. Quote selection concerns the offered rate, while slippage concerns a price change before execution. Selecting a competitive quote does not guarantee the trade will execute at that price.
Is slippage the same as a network fee?
A network transaction fee is a separate swap cost. Slippage describes the difference between the requested and executed prices. A fee and an unfavorable rate change can both affect the cost of a swap, but they measure different things.
What needs checking when comparing swap amounts?
- If the quoted and executed figures concern different token pairs or input amounts, match them to the same swap before assessing the rate difference.
- If a figure includes a separately stated network fee, distinguish that charge from the exchange-rate change.
- If the trade has not executed, treat its quoted output as an estimate; it cannot establish actual slippage.
